Platinum Investing

Precious metals investing in gold and silver has long been a practice of smart investors and hedge fund managers to safely guard their investments and to diversify their portfolio against potentially having their value reduced to zero through stock market crashes.

Self Directed Platinum Investing

Since it is widely known that investing in precious metals is a safer choice to hedge against inflation and wars, many investors have started to forego the traditional method of entrusting their investment to brokers and investment managers so that they can have a more hands-on approach in handling their wealth.

Call it a wise move by smart investors, but this approach has saved thousands of investor’s fees and transaction charges that may arise when entrusted to a third party. And with more investors joining the bandwagon of handling their own investments, a new international community has sprung up of such individuals, creating even more incentive for someone to begin handling their own investments.

But what can platinum investment do for the average person with little or almost no knowledge of investments? If you have ever been interested in entering the world of precious metals investing, then this article should be a good introduction to what it can offer and how you can benefit from it.

Inherent Qualities Affecting Platinum Investing

Platinum is a highly regarded metal that is considered to be of higher value than gold and silver. Since its mining procedures are more complicated and specialized than others, platinum requires special techniques and equipment that ultimately raise the price over other metals.

And when the mining operation is completed, the extraction of platinum is a special process since it is a by-product of other metals. The refinement procedure is also different from gold and silver.

Production of Platinum for Investment

In terms of platinum production, most of the world’s platinum deposits are sourced in the continent of Africa, most notably its southern regions. It is estimated that 78% of the world’s platinum production is sourced from this country, with Russia contributing an estimate of 13%.

In comparison with other mined metals, the price of platinum is based on its rarity as a precious metal. Since the early 90’s, the price of platinum has steadily climbed up which is an indicator to current investors of stability in their investment for the coming years.

Future Of Platinum investing

Since platinum investment is still a newcomer in the field compared to more established markets for gold and silver, such investments are still small in number compared to others. But despite its small market share in precious metals investing, platinum is still considered one of the safest investments vehicles compared to stocks, bonds and mutual funds.

And with more investors realizing the stable growth potential and immunity to economic events, platinum investing is starting to be recognized as another viable option to add to a precious metals investing portfolio. There is no doubt that platinum will eventually prove to be a significant investment choice similar to gold at some point in the future. With its rarity increasing everyday, more investors will see how valuable it is as a legitimate investment tool that can provide security during rough economic times.
